Meridian selected by Oldham to run Limecroft
Published 20th December 2011
Meridian has been selected by Oldham Council to provide short stay dementia services at Limecroft in Oldham.
Oldham Council is pleased to announce Limecroft Care Home has been officially reopened.
In June the Local Authority agreed to restore the 20-bed residential care to full use.
It will be offering short stay dementia care to people from across the Borough.
The Council has selected Meridian Healthcare Limited to provide dementia respite services at the facility.
Meridian Healthcare Limited is an independent provider of care services and employs more than 1,200 people across 28 sites nationally.
Work has been carried out to refurbish the Whitebank Road facility, including new carpets and furnishings.
Meridian has recruited staff, including local residents, to provide professional care for service users.
Councillor Phil Harrison, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Services and Health was among the official party when the centre was reopened on December 9.
Cllr Harrison said: "When the new administration took control in May we pledged to residents that we would reopen Limecroft and we have made good on that promise.
"The facility was well liked by patients, families and carers and as a Co-operative Council we have listened to what these people have told us and moved quickly to re-open it.
"Limecroft was given a three-star rating and classed as 'excellent' in its last inspection by the Quality Care Commission so it would have been a travesty to see it mothballed.
"Limecroft has undergone a refurbishment and the care home has been restored as a centre of excellence for adult social care provision."
Susan Firth, Meridian's Managing Director, commented: "Meridian has long-standing experience of delivering high quality care to older people.
"I am delighted that we have been selected to provide this essential short stay service for Oldham over the coming two years at the Limecroft site.
"The care centre will provide first class care and support for older people with dementia across Oldham. We have built close working relationships with social services in Oldham and are looking forward to welcoming our first clients over the coming days."
Limecroft was closed on March 31, 2011 and its dementia care provision was transferred to the remaining Council-run residential care home at Medlock Court. For more information about Limecroft, visit: www.meridiancare.co.uk/limecroft
