Greatwood House in Denton win Care Team Award at the 2011 Great North West Care Awards in Blackpool
Greatwood House Care Centre in Denton, Tameside won the sought after Care Team Award at the Great North West Care Awards 2011 on Saturday night.
The prestigious Great British Care awards attract entries from around the region and shortlisted teams included, Rainbow Trust, CLS Care Services, Henshaw Society for the Blind and Belvedere Nursing Home. The team at Greatwood House were presented with the award for how residents at the care home are helped to live independent and individual lives.
Marie McPherson, Manager of Greatwood House was delighted: "I'm very proud of my team, it's well deserved recognition for all the staff. We are all proactive at promoting person centred care - which at the end of the day means better quality of care for each and every resident"
Deputy Pia Jenson and Activities Coordinator Tina Parker collected the award with Manager Marie McPherson. The award was presented by former Coronation Street star and current lead in Mount Pleasant, Sally Lyndsay, along with Lisa Carr of the British Care Awards organisation.
Tina has been instrumental in building up a collection of 1940s and 1950s memorabilia and household objects. All used to help residents remember past times and to make Greatwood House feel more like home.
On returning from the award ceremony in Blackpool, resident Clare Eades congratulated the staff, telling them that she was glad they were.. "top of the pops - let's have a party to celebrate."
The team will now be put forward for the national awards, which are held in London in 2012.
