Susan nominated for award for exceptional standards of care
Published 9th April 2010
Susan Chadwick, manager of Yew Trees, has been nominated for an award as a result of her ‘passionate’ and ‘remarkable’ approach to providing care for residents with dementia related conditions.
Janet Robson, Modern Matron for Dignity and Respect within the Tameside and Glossop PCT, put Susan forward in the Dignity in Care category at the Great British Care Awards after spending time at Yew Trees looking into how residents experience dignity within the care environment.
In association with the national Dignity in Care Campaign, Janet's project required care centre managers to sign up as Dignity Champions and to encourage and assist staff to become champions. A Dignity Champion is someone who believes passionately that being treated with dignity is a basic human right, not an optional extra.
Janet commented, 'Susan has been exceptional in encouraging her staff members to become champions and has achieved a 100% sign up.'
Susan also excelled in other areas of the project which concentrated on good practice and the implementation of person centred care. Janet praised Susan by saying, 'Susan was again exceptional in delivering personalised care to residents and supporting staff when faced with difficult challenges...Susan's ethos is that all residents are like her second family...She believes it is important to see the person and not the condition.'
The regional winners of the awards will be judged in May with the winners being invited to the Great British Care Awards National Finals on the 5th June at The Guildhall in London .
From all at Meridian Healthcare we wish Susan the very best of luck!
