Sandon House resident Winnifred Briggs, known to her friends as Winnie, celebrated her 100th Birthday on Monday 12th May with her family and friends at a grand party in the Mossley care centre.

Sat in the new garden room amongst an array of beautiful flower bouquets, Winnie enjoyed a visit from Mossley Mayor and family friend, Councillor Marie Milne and Consort Tony Milne who presented her with a birthday card, flowers and read the Queen’s telegram to her in celebration of her special day.

The youngest of 5 children, Winnie is a local Tameside girl who grew up in Ashton. A grandmother to 4 and great grandmother of 10, Winnie is kept busy. She puts the secret of looking so good at 100 years old down to hard work, having started work in the Marple Mill at the age of 12, having good friends and always being able to do them good turns.

Mossley Mayor, Councillor Marie Milne says attending 100th birthday parties is one of the nicest parts of her job, especially to visit Winnie on her special day as Councillor Milne’s children were at school with Winnie’s grandchildren, she commented: ‘It is wonderful to get to 100, you know she definitely doesn’t look her age, she looks fantastic.’

Care Centre Manager Irene Booth commented: ‘On behalf of Sandon House and all at Meridian Healthcare I would like to wish Winnie a very happy birthday. She is amazing and you wouldn’t believe it that she is 100 today. It has been a fabulous turn out to the party and everyone has enjoyed dancing and celebrating, I hope Winnie has enjoyed herself and has had a great day to remember.’
