Residents and staff at Stamford Court have enjoyed a themed month at the races in the Stalybridge nursing home to celebrate the Grand National.

Care Centre Manager Christine Evans creates a different atmosphere of enjoyment in the care centre every month by putting together a themed display in the entrance hall which is carried through in the activities and events that take place over the month. This April, Christine has decided to take advantage of the excuse to dress up all posh, enjoy fine food and drink and get caught up in the thrill of the races.

Christine comments: ‘I like to create an atmosphere of fun here at Stamford Court, each month we do something different, we have done valentines days and followed Wimbledon just to name a couple of the other themes, this April we celebrated the races in style and instead of a day we decided to prolong the entertainment for a month. As part of the months activities we had a day at the races here in Stalybridge, all the residents gathered in the lounge and took part in a sweepstake on the grand national using paper money, the winner recieved a box of chocolates, it was all very light-hearted and we enjoyed a good afternoon with lots of treat food and a bit of a tipple.’

Resident Annie Birkett’s horse came third in the race, she thoroughly enjoyed the days festivities: ‘We had a lovely day, it is nice to escape from the everyday routine every once in a while and Christine and the staff here always go out of their way to make sure there is something fun to take part in if you want to. I can’t wait to see what they do next month, Christine always keeps it a secret to surprise us all with, it’s all a part of the fun!’
