Kingsfield Care Centre said farewell to Cook, Meg Harrison after over 30 years service on Friday 4th April with a big retirement party at the home in Ashton-under-Lyne

The party arranged by the staff and residents at Kingsfield was a joint celebration for Meg’s Birthday and her retirement. Residents and colleagues past and present gathered for an afternoon’s entertainment provided by a local singer and merrily chatted over buffet and drinks about the fun times they have had over the years.

Meg was presented with flowers and lots of gifts from her friends at Kingsfield and Meridian Healthcare, she commented: ‘I will really miss working here, it will be strange not to follow the normal routine after 30 years but I am looking forward to retirement, we have bought a caravan and plan to take lots of holidays and I am sure that my friends will ensure that I become a lady who does lunch!, I have been at Kingsfield in particular for about 20 years and it has been a pleasure to work with such a lovely group of people, we have had some good times and it has been fantastic to be a part of the celebrations we have had for the residents over the years including 100th Birthdays and a Diamond Wedding Anniversary to name a few. I would like to say thank you to everyone for the beautiful flowers and lovely gifts I shall miss you all.’

Rita Shockledge who recently retired as Kingsfield’s Care Centre Manager commented: ‘I have known Meg for about 50 years as we grew up in the same area, she is an excellent cook, reliable and fantastic with the residents, she not only fed us tasty meals for 30 years but has also provided support to the whole care team at Kingsfield.’ Kingsfield’s new Care Centre Manager Elaine Bradley added: ‘It has been lovely working with Meg over the years, before becoming manager here I worked as a Care Assistant at Kingsfield some years back, she is a great cook and gets involved where ever possible contributing a smile and her great sense of humour, on behalf of all of the staff and residents here at Kingsfield and Meridian Healthcare I would like to wish Meg lots of happiness for her retirement.’
