AN AFTERNOON AT THE MOVIES
Those attending the afternoon included residents and their families, Care Centre Manager Joanne Hempstock and guests from Kirklees Council. Guests were treated to cinema style snacks and enjoyed watching a series of classic films chosen by residents at White Rose House.
The cinema room was introduced alongside the creation of two additional en suite bedrooms on the lower ground floor. Cinema rooms have been introduced at other Meridian care centres and proved a huge hit with residents. The room is laid out cinema style and has a very large flat screen and all the equipment required to show movies to an audience.
The funding for the cinema, which aims to improve the quality of life for older people, has come from the government’s Dignity campaign. White Rose House Care Centre was one of 60 homes in Kirklees to receive a grant.
Care Centre Manager Joanne Hempstock thanked Kirklees Council for their involvement in the project: “We’re really pleased we were able to go ahead with this project. The residents are thrilled with the cinema room. All our residents enjoy socialising, trips out and taking part in the full activities programme run here. This just adds to the entertainment on offer. The old classic films such as Little Women are the favourites with our residents. The residents voted for the films chosen today and we hope they will continue to enjoy many more relaxing film afternoons to come.“
Councillor Margaret Bates said “the capital grant funding has gone a long way to improving facilities and has offered additional benefits to many care homes across Kirklees. I’m sure many of the people staying at White Rose House will enjoy the cinema entertainment. “Old movies” are great reminder of the good old days. I’m sure the cinema will bring back a lot of memories of both happy and sad times to all”
