Meridian Healthcare’s Rita Shockledge celebrated her retirement at a party at Kingsfield Care Centre on Tuesday 29th January with residents and colleagues.

Rita who is hoping to move to Spain to enjoy the sunshine and a quieter pace of life in the near future was surprised by the party where all of her team dressed in Spanish clothing and served up Sangria and a fabulous buffet. During the party Rita was presented with jewellery from her team at Kingsfield and vouchers for a gift of her choice from all at Meridian Healthcare. She comments: ‘I am totally overwhelmed at the fantastic party they have thrown for me, they are a fabulous team at Kingsfield and the residents are so friendly, it has been a pleasure to work with them all.’

Rita has been Care Centre Manager at Kingsfield in Ashton for 4 years, but has enjoyed 14 years experience with Meridian Healthcare. She started work with as a Care Assistant at Holme Lea in Stalybridge and went on to work at Hazeldene, Daisy Nook and Yew Trees. She was employed as a Senior Care Assistant at Kingsfield in Ashton in 1997 before returning as Manager in March 2004.

Rita’s line manager, Operations Manager Bernice Priest commented: ‘Rita brings her own very special brand of management to Kingsfield and has been instrumental in the improvement of services for those with dementia. Most recently overseeing the development of a specialist relaxation therapy room at Kingsfield.’

She adds: ‘Rita has done a great job building positive working relationships with residents, relatives, social services and healthcare workers within the Tameside area. We have received many complimentary testimonials for her personal qualities and approach to the care for residents in her charge.’

Her colleagues and many friends within the company will miss Rita’s ready smile and tireless energy. Meridian Healthcare would like to thank Rita for 14 years of outstanding service and wish her well for retirement.
