Residents and staff at Kingsfield Care Centre were treated to a Christmas Choir concert performed by children from nearby Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Primary School on Monday the 17th December.

The children visited Meridian Healthcare’s Kingsfield Care Centre for a morning carol service, performing a selection of traditional Christmas songs and a few of their own choice from a concert they performed at Manchester’s MEN Arena last week. The lively concert accompanied by hand actions was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the residents who were clapping and singing along.

The children were accompanied by music teacher Claire Crebbins and Deputy Headteacher Pauline Rowley, Pauline comments: ‘It is lovely to be able to come to Kingsfield, the children were so excited, they get so much out of the visits and performing for others. We try and do choir visits each Christmas, we have also visited Willow Wood Hospice this year and the children love to see the smiles on their audience’s faces, on the whole the school is full of very caring children, the choir devote their lunch times to practice every week and they love to share their talent with others.’

Care Centre Manager Rita Shockledge comments: ‘We were thrilled to have the children from Our Lady of Mount Carmel school at Kingsfield, their singing was beautiful and very spirited, the residents always enjoy choir visits and it was nice to see them getting involved with some of the actions and singing along. On behalf of all of the residents and staff here at Kingsfield we would like to say a big thank you to the children who entertained us yesterday and to their teachers for bringing them along, and we would like to wish them a very Merry Christmas.’

Kingsfield Care Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne is home to 54 older people and specialises in care for those with dementia related conditions. The home has recently completed a full makeover with the addition of extra bedrooms and a relaxation therapy room in time for Christmas.
