ROBY RESIDENTS REMINISCE
Residents at Meridian Healthcare’s Roby House have been enjoying their new photos, plaques and framed sports and cinema memorabilia bought with money given to the home as a part of the capital allowance grant scheme.
Features including black and white photos of movie stars from the 40s onwards, pictures of olden day football teams complete with authentic brown leather football, boots and press clippings have been put up around the state of the art care centre for the residents to enjoy and to promote and stimulate long term memory and reminiscence.
Deputy Care Centre Manager Liz Thomas comments: ‘Since the memorabilia was put up a month ago (November 2007)there has been a great response from the residents, the idea came from the feedback and positive response we get from reminiscence activities in the home. The residents enjoy looking at the movie stars in particular, remembering their names and the classic films they starred in and where they were and what they were doing at the time the films were released. The Clark Gable picture is especially popular with the ladies who often comment ‘ohh I love him’ when they pass it on the corridor. Reminiscence activities are important to maintain long term memory and it is a fantastic conversational subject.’
