Meridian Healthcare’s Amber Lodge Care Centre in Armley is to be treated to a portable Relaxation Therapy Kit sometimes known as a Snoozelum thanks to a £15,000 capital allowance grant from the local authority.

Amber Lodge currently provides first class residential care for up to 40 older people in beautiful surroundings. Care Centre Manager Lynne Dawson is looking forward to putting the new Snoozelum in use, she comments: ‘The Relaxation Therapy Rooms has proved a popular feature in other homes around the Meridian Group. Due to space constraints we have decided to purchase a portable kit which contains the elements found in the sensory rooms. These kits are specifically designed to transform a room in to an ideal place for residents to relax and reminisce. The lighting, colours, music and other sensory props create a soothing atmosphere which have been seen to have a positive calming effect on the behaviour of people especially those who have dementia related conditions as they can often become confused and agitated. It will be a nice addition to the home for all our residents to enjoy.’
