Meridian Healthcare’s White Rose House in Holmfirth are proud to receive a 5 star rating for their in house catering facilities.

Introduced in June 2007 Kirklees Council along with other west and south Yorkshire Local Authorities launched the ‘Scores on the Doors’ scheme which gives a star rating to local businesses including care homes, restaurants, pubs, hotels and takeaways to list a few. The scheme has been launched to provide the consumer with better information on the quality of services in their area. The star rating awarded to each business is based on a food hygiene inspection carried out by the local authority, included in the scoring for the award are the following areas; Food hygiene and procedures, Structural conditions and cleanliness and confidence in management. The scores for each section are added together to produce an overall star rating from 5 stars for excellent to 0 stars for very poor. The Catering Team at White Rose House produce excellent, nutritious, home cooked food three times a day for the Nursing homes 60 residents. The team led by Head Chef Shane Apperley pride themselves in their spotlessly clean kitchen and a strong sense of teamwork when creating tasty dishes, when asked the secret behind such a high rating, Shane comments: ‘I have a fantastic team of chefs and kitchen assistants who ensure that the kitchen runs to a strict regime and the cleaning and food hygiene procedures are carried out to the letter, I also ensure that a deep clean is carried out on a monthly basis to ensure our standards are always high.’

Care Centre Manager Joanne Hempstock is very proud of her Catering Team she comments: ‘This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication shown by Shane and his team, Food is definitely one of lives pleasures and the tasty dishes that come out of the kitchen are very popular with all of the residents especially the delicious homemade pies, cakes and pastries, I’d like to congratulate the team on their fantastic achievement and to say keep up the good work.’
