Meridian Healthcare’s Yew Trees Care Centre Manager Susan Chadwick celebrated her 25 years long service with staff and residents at the home in Dukinfield yesterday.

Susan has worked at Yew Trees Care Centre for 13 years and before that at The Sycamores in Newton, Hyde. Having worked hard to achieve the Care Centre Manager role Susan ‘Enjoys her job thoroughly, I think of Yew Trees as my second home, it isn’t like coming to work. I love all of the residents and enjoy working with a client group such as I have.’ Yew Trees is a specialist unit for older people suffering with Dementia and Mental Health conditions. ‘I feel it is so important to ensure all my residents have a high quality of life, I feel they are often a group in society who are written off, my ethos at Yew Trees is to treat all my residents as the individuals they are, they have fantastic characters and we have a lot of fun.’

Susan has recently put her thoughts on Dementia into two poems explaining what carers can do and also an insight into the people behind the condition.

In recognition of her 25 year achievement Susan’s Line Manager Bernice Priest congratulated her in a presentation of a certificate, bouquet of flowers and gift vouchers for a gift of her choice: ‘It is excellent the way Susan has developed Yew Trees in to a home with such a good reputation, it is renowned in the area for the personal care offered by a friendly team. Since the contract for mental health care was taken on at Yew Trees I have had a lot of positive feedback from the mental health team in the area. Susan has created a lovely environment which breaks every stereotype of a mental health unit, the residents are happy and have a smile waiting for me when I visit, and they are always active with the exciting activities programme run here.’
