TAMESIDE NURSING HOMES AWARDED EXCELLENCE ACCOLADE

19/09/2007
Care Managers Annette Forrest and Helen Hubbert of Tameside Nursing homes The Lakes and Meridian Healthcare’s Hyde Nursing Home attended an awards evening on Wednesday 5th September to receive an award from Tameside and Glossop PCT for their Services Supporting the Work of the PCT.

The above award was presented to Annette and Helen to acknowledge their dedication to the implementation of the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) into their care homes. GSF/ ICP Project Manager for Tameside and Glossop PCT Pauline Sumner nominated the two care homes for this award, she comments: ‘Both Hyde Nursing Home and The Lakes Care Centre nominated themselves to be pilot sites for the introduction of the GSF in Care Homes Phase 3 programme and underwent a comprehensive training and education programme regarding palliative care provision. This required ongoing commitment and motivation from the nursing home managers, training nursing staff and care assistants within the homes.’

The GSF within care homes is aimed at improving the quality of end of life care for residents through increased coordination and collaboration between GPs and Primary Health Care Teams, Out of Hours services and resident’s family members in order to pro actively plan anticipatory care for residents as their conditions deteriorate.

As a result of the hard work put in by both Nursing Homes to implement the GSF ‘Residents are receiving quality end of life care in their own nursing homes and the introduction of Advanced Care Planning has ensured that residents and their families wishes, choices and preferences for end of life care are identified and acted upon.’ Pauline adds.

Hyde Nursing Home Manager Helen Hubbert reflects: ‘It is an honour to receive this award, it has been hard work implementing the GSF but the benefits seen for our residents have been well worth it, it is important to all our staff to provide residents who are nearing the end of life a say in their care and the choice that allows them to spend their time in comfort and for their wishes to be respected. I would like to say thank you to Pauline Sumner and to Annette Forrest for their support during the training and I am sure Annette will agree this award is a testament to the fantastic work and positive approach our care staff have shown to the implementation of the GSF programme.’
