CENTURY CELEBRATIONS FOR KITTY
Catherine, known to her friends and family as Kitty took all the attention in her stride yesterday, relaxing with family in the glorious sunshine in the back garden at Meridian Healthcare’s Daisy Nook House Care Centre, she was graced by a visit from Lord Mayor Councillor Ian Smith who presented Kitty with her birthday card from the Queen and a beautiful bouquet of flowers and card from Tameside Council to honour her 100 year milestone, Councillor Smith commented: ‘Kitty is awesome for her age she definitely doesn’t look 100, it is a fantastic achievement.’
Kitty celebrated her birthday with a party with friends and family on Sunday, grandmother of 6 and great grandmother of 17 Kitty was not short of help celebrating in style. Staff and residents at Daisy Nook held a second party at the home last night to mark the occasion with live music, food and a cheeky tipple. Care Centre Manager Ron Duke commented: ‘Kitty is truly remarkable for her age, she is the life and soul of the party and is often seen on the dancefloor, we are delighted to celebrate such a special birthday with Kitty and hope she enjoys herself tonight at the party, on behalf of everyone at Daisy Nook we wish Kitty many happy returns and hope she has a great day.’
When asked the secret to looking fabulous at 100 Kitty is unsure, she comments: ‘I don’t know, good health and hard work.’ Kitty has lived most of her life in Hadfield, and moved to Daisy Nook at the age of 98, a former mill worker Kitty has many memories to share of the changes to the Hadfield area she has experienced through the years, it is clear she enjoys a good chat and admits she loves to watch the football, a Manchester United supporter her favourite player was Bobby Charlton.
Basking in all of the attention of the day Kitty seems to have enjoyed the weeks celebrations for her 100th birthday, all at Meridian Healthcare offer their best wishes and look forward to celebrating many more years with such a great character.
