Staff at Meridian Healthcare’s Stamford Court Nursing and Care Centre in Stalybridge were honoured to receive a personalised trophy cup from resident Greta Fahey and her husband Bill Fahey in recognition of the excellent, loving care they provide.

Greta Fahey arrived at Stamford Court in April following a stay in hospital at Bill’s insistence after leaving another care home. Upon arrival at Stamford Court Greta was in very poor health and her condition was deteriorating before Bill’s eyes. However as Bill comments: ‘Due to the loving care, attention and support Christine [Care Centre Manager] and all the team provide Greta has done brilliantly, she is happy, well and contented.’ Bill adds: ‘Love and care for a sick person can do more than any medication, that is what they do at Stamford they love and care, not just for Greta but for me as well. I visit every day and they greet me as part of a family, they feed me, care for me and look after me as well as Greta.’

Bill continues: ‘A very big thank you to Christine and all the staff and I mean all the staff including the cooks, laundry staff, cleaners, carers, nurses and all, they are brilliant and Greta wants for nothing, I feel she is in the best place ever and I can go home at night and sleep as I know she is in safe hands. With this I felt I had to do something to show how much we appreciate all they do for us, so I have had this cup made for the team to show our gratitude and thanks as without them we would both be in a poor state.’

Care Centre Manager Christine Evans was surprised to be presented with the cup by Greta and Bill, she comments: ‘We were all so amazed to receive such a touching present from Greta and Bill. It is upsetting for us all when we have people admitted to Stamford Court in such ill health it comes as second nature to us all to look after all our residents like part of the family. The team at Stamford Court works very hard to ensure that our residents are as comfortable as possible and that they feel at home here, this trophy we have received from Greta and Bill is a testament to the fantastic care they provide, it is so personally satisfying for all of us to know that we are making a positive difference to people’s lives and if we can share a smile and enjoy doing it then all the better. A big thank you to Greta and Bill for such an honour, it is a pleasure having you here at Stamford Court.’
