Meridian Healthcare’s Westwood Lodge Nursing and Care Centre in Wigan celebrated the completion of a £400,000 refurbishment project with a party on Wednesday 27th June.

Special guests Wigan’s Mayor, Councillor John O’Brien and local lads Bill Blan and Billy Boston both former Wigan and Great Britain rugby stars helped officially re-open Westwood Lodge with a party at the home attended by residents, their families, Meridian Healthcare Staff and members from the local community.

Mr & Mrs Boston commented: ‘The home looks beautiful, it blends in to the surrounding environment and doesn’t look like a conventional Nursing home it is more like a hotel. The refurbishment has been carried out to such a high standard and the layout of the home is superb.’

Westwood Lodge has undergone major refurbishment work over the past months transforming the tired looking interior with the Meridian touch, updating bedrooms, dining, lounge and reception areas with bright tasteful décor and modern fixtures, fittings and furniture. The makeover at Westwood Lodge is just another step in Meridian’s investment programme in its 25 homes with the ultimate goal of bringing every home up to a five star standard creating beautiful environments to compliment the excellent care provided by all of their staff.

Care Centre Manager Maria Mather commented: ‘We are all very proud of Westwood Lodge, it is looking fabulous, I have thoroughly enjoyed the party today and glad to be able to show off our facilities and professional team to guests and healthcare professionals. I would like to say a big thank you to Councillor John O’Brien, Billy Boston and Bill Blan for joining us in celebration and also to our in house chefs for producing a tasty buffet that was enjoyed by all.’
