3 GENERATIONS RACE FOR LIFE
Stamford Court Care Centre Manager Christine Evans participated in the Wigan Race for Life with her Mother, sister, two daughters and niece in support of Cancer Research UK. The charity is one close to Christine’s heart as her father has been diagnosed with cancer, she comments: ‘Taking part in the 5K run was all down to my daughters, they wanted to run for their Grandad, who stood on the side-lines cheering us all on with a proud grin on his face. It was an amazing day, 1500 ladies took part in the Wigan event braving the sunshine and showers for a fabulous charity that makes a world of difference to so many people. The atmosphere was electric and very moving, I am very proud of all the girls in our family for completing the race.’
Since the first Race for Life in began in 1994, Britain’s largest ladies only fundraising event has raised over £140 million in sponsorship money for the invaluable work carried out by Cancer Research UK. Christine’s daughter Olivia aged 5 was the youngest runner on the day and proudly crossed the finishing line with a very tired mum in 45 minutes, eldest daughter Lauren, 9 outpaced mum to finish in 37 minutes, Christine’s niece Sarah, 13 sped ahead to come in 2nd place overall.
Christine adds: ‘On behalf of my family I would like to dedicate our achievement to my Father, we thoroughly enjoyed the day and would like to say a big well done to all who participated and would encourage everyone to join us next year.’
