Ethel received her birthday card from the Queen and was showered with flowers from local Mossley Mayoress Val Carter and Tameside Mayoress Margaret Sidebottom. Staff at Sandon House presented Ethel with a copy of The Times newspaper from the day she was born and a trio set of beautiful glass photo frames to put her party pictures in and admire.
Care Centre Manager Irene Booth commented: ‘Ethel has lived with us at Sandon House for the past five years, and we have enjoyed every moment of her company, she is a pleasure to care for and a true lady. On behalf of Meridian Healthcare and all the staff and residents at Sandon House I would like to wish Ethel a Happy Birthday and best wishes for all those to come.’
Attending the party was Ethel’s daughter Jennifer Oakey who puts her mother’s long life down to hard work and a caring heart as Ethel cared for her mother for many years.
