Meridian Healthcare is delighted to announce that Managing Director Alan Firth is a finalist in the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year North award.

The long running Ernst & Young Award recognises the ‘men and women who create and build leading businesses, contribute to the strength of their communities and the economy and help raise the bar of business excellence.’ Past recipients include Michael Dell of Dell Inc and Pierre Omidyar of eBay inc. Award winners will be announced on 18th June at a gala dinner held at the Manchester Hilton.

Since his appointment as Managing Director in 1993, Alan Firth has achieved outstanding organic and acquisitive growth for Meridian Healthcare in a relatively short period of time. Driven by a passion for providing high quality services and facilities for older people, the business has not only grown but also invested heavily into its existing facilities.

Under Alan’s skilful and close management, Meridian Healthcare has blossomed into a multimillion-pound business. This has been achieved through the development of a strong senior management team and the radical re-development of previously poor quality facilities into ‘5-star’ hotel like accommodation. Alan’s approach has enabled Meridian to acquire additional care centres and to undertake ambitious and award winning new build initiatives such as White Rose House in Holmfirth and Roby House in Huyton.

Currently consisting of 25 care centres across the North of England, Meridian are expanding their portfolio with building work on the 26th addition currently underway. Rievaulx House in Leeds will be exceptional in the amount of space and facilities it provides to its elderly residents.

A long serving advocate of quality accommodation and care for the elderly, Alan is no stranger to awards having received the Caring Times Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2005. In the same year Meridian Healthcare was presented with the Manchester Evening News Business of the Year Award.
