LYDIA CELEBRATES A CENTURY

11/04/2007
Residents and staff at Meridian Healthcare’s Daisy Nook Care Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne helped Day Care visitor Mary (Lydia) Street celebrate her 100th Birthday in style on Saturday.

Mary, who prefers to be called Lydia turned the big 100 on Friday 6th April when she spent the day partying at home with her family. On her return to Day Care on Saturday, staff at Daisy Nook organised a buffet and live music to ensure that Lydia and all the residents enjoyed a birthday party to remember.

Care Centre Manager Ron Duke says: ‘Lydia was overcome with surprise at the party we organised for her and the visit from Tameside’s Mayor, Margaret Sidebottom. We all enjoy Lydia’s company at our Day Care Centre she is a lovely lady with an infectious smile and is definitely looking fabulous for 100. On behalf of all the staff and residents at Daisy Nook and Meridian Healthcare I would like to wish Lydia a very Happy Birthday and best wishes for the years to come.’

As part of her gift from Daisy Nook, Lydia was presented with ‘The Times’ newspaper from her date of birth in 1907, Lydia was delighted with the newspaper and enjoyed looking back on the 6th April’s events 100 years ago. She commented: ‘I have had a lovely day and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I would like to say a big thank you to the staff at Daisy Nook for arranging a wonderful party and to everyone for their kind wishes.’
