SUNNYSIDE SHARES EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE WITH LOCAL CARERS OF THE FUTURE

22/03/2007
Staff and residents at Meridian Healthcare’s Sunnyside Care Centre in Droylsden have formed a learning bond with local students at nearby Droylsden High School.

Following lectures at the high school carried out by Sunnyside Senior Care Assistant Jula Gartside, Health and Social Care students visited the care centre last week as part of their Harvest Festival giving parcels containing memory books, chocolates and toiletries to residents and day care visitors. As part of their award they interviewed residents and staff to find out about the day to day experience in a care centre.

Students enjoyed the day and Mrs Campbell from Droylsden High School commented: ‘Sunnyside is a beautiful home, all the staff are friendly and welcoming and we would like to especially thank Juala, Sharon and Kelly for arranging our visit.’

Sunnyside Care Centre Manager Sharon Saund comments: ‘As a manager within the care sector I think that the introduction of future care assistant’s, possible nurses and social workers into care centres is an excellent idea. Breaking down perpetuated myths of how care centres are and giving the student’s a real insight to care will help them to put the theory learned in the classroom into practice.’
