PANCAKE MAYHEM

PANCAKE DAY MAYHEM AT WHITE ROSE HOUSE

02/03/2007
Staff and residents at Meridian Healthcare’s White Rose House Care Centre in Holmfirth celebrated Pancake Day with a difference this year with their own version of the wacky races.

Making the most of a beautiful day in Holmfirth, in-house Activities Coordinator Julie Hunter decided it was time to celebrate Pancake Day in a unique way, one which would set apart the ‘care team from the builder boys’ with help from resident Dennis, she set about creating a course for a race with a difference.

Acting Care Centre Manager, Christine Evans recalls: ‘The Meridian team turned out in corporate colours looking very smart, as usual and the builders from the nearby site turned out in hard hats, yellow bibs and work boots.’ Julie and senior nurse Siphah refereed to ensure that no cheating took place and they were off.

With the care team’s reputation and the builder’s pride at stake a great deal of pushing and shoving took place, Care Centre Manager, Christine held back on the cheating that had gotten her disqualified in the first round and White Rose House won by a mile, ‘We offer our deepest sympathy to the builders’ she comments ‘however with a team like we have at White Rose House they stood no chance’. Spokesman for the builders, Graham took the loss graciously: ‘Of course we were perfect gentleman and let them win, however we are game for any new challenge Julie sets us.’

White Rose House would like to thank all staff and residents that took part in the pancake race and those who supported from the sidelines. A big thanks especially to Julie for organising and Christine for being mad enough to let it happen, thank you also to Graham and his team of builders for being such fun and game for a laugh. Top secret preparations for the next challenge are on the drawing board for the near future.
