Residents at Meridian Healthcare’s Lauren Court in Chester prove that love is still alive this Valentines day no matter how old you are.

One couple currently resident at Lauren Court and three other residents whose partners live nearby were presented with chocolates and flowers by Care Centre Manager, Stacey Armstrong to celebrate their combined total of 193 years marriage at a cream tea open afternoon at the home on February 14th.

Couple Harry and Irene Moore enjoy living together at Lauren Court, they have been married for 62 years, Irene joked, ‘I wouldn’t be without him after all these years.’ When asked the secret to their marriage Harry comments: ‘It’s a combination of different things, it is all give and take, honesty and definitely a good sense of humour.’ Resident Ron Leigh adds, ‘The biggest secret is plenty of affection and romance’, Ron’s wife was unfortunately unable to make the presentation but he promised to save her some chocolates! Valentines Day is a particularly special day for resident Florence Blake and her husband Paul as they celebrate their 36th wedding anniversary on February 14th, they commented: ‘The flowers and chocolate are a lovely gesture and we shall enjoy them’.

Lauren Court Manager, Stacey Armstrong comments: ‘It is lovely to see the couples together, the staff and I felt it important for the residents to enjoy Valentines Day and take the opportunity to recognise the effort they have put into their relationships when either one or both of them are in a residential care centre, I think they have a lot of experience to share and some good marriage tips for staying together for so long.’ She adds: ‘At Lauren Court we try to make our home their home and feel it is important for couples to stay together when they reach the stage where residential care is necessary, there are plenty of welcoming lounges and quiet areas for residents to spend time with their partners and visitors.
