MERIDIAN HEALTHCARE PAINT THE CARE STANDARDS GOLD
The Gold Standards Framework for Care Homes (GSFCH) in partnership with the NHS and other professionals are rolling out phase 3 of their programme in care homes following their success in Primary Care Trusts. The GSF aims to develop improvements in the quality and organisation of care for people in the last stages of their lives. The four Meridian Healthcare homes are working together with GPs, nurses, palliative care specialists, hospitals and others in order to build excellent lines of communication to help identify, assess and plan care that is of ‘gold standard’.
Hyde Nursing Home Manager, Helen Hubbert comments, ‘The GSFCH enables us to provide better care for our residents through training, support and discussion. For residents it means they are given greater control and more involvement in their care choices. This is done by creating advanced care plans where residents and their families are invited to discuss their choices, preferences and the options available in order to meet their individual needs and wishes.’ She adds: ‘By offering this type of advanced care it cuts down on unnecessary hospital admissions, allowing residents the dignity to live out their last days in a comfortable environment with familiar staff who have cared for them throughout.
Alongside Hyde Nursing Home, Westwood Lodge, John Joseph Powell and White Rose House have all been asked to take part in the scheme.. Staff at the four care centres take care for the elderly very seriously, continuously working hard to achieve the highest quality through training and a natural ability to create warm, friendly atmospheres.
