After 32 years service Night Care Assistant Barbara Buckley has retired. Barbara spent the majority of her career at Meridian Healthcare’s Fazakerly House Care Centre where she worked for 23 years. She initially planned to retire last year but has finally decided to call it a day in order to care for her family.

Barbara began work as a carer at Fazakerley House, Prescot in 1981. She thoroughly enjoyed her job and hopes the other staff will continue with her good work in the future. Barbara gained a great sense of achievement in seeing how her work has improved the quality of life for the residents. She commented, ‘I care for the clients as if I was at home looking after my own mother and father, the most important thing is to give them love”.

As much as Barbara will miss clients and staff at Fazakerley House she is looking forward to her retirement, and plans to spend a lot of time bowling. She is sure she has made the right decision.

Staff, residents and visitors celebrated with Barbara last Friday as she said her farewells and was presented with flowers and high street vouchers, on behalf of Meridian Healthcare as a thank you for her service. Home Manager Catherine Atkinson is sorry to see her leave, “Our residents and staff will miss her greatly. We all wish her the very best in her retirement”.
