The residents, two of which suffer from Alzheimer’s and the other from dementia, recently spent the day painting a canvas for the reception area of the home. Ida Twist, 78, Victor Barrand, 84 and Rhoda Hampson, 69 completed the splendid painting of a Yew Tree together which now sits proudly on display in the reception area.
Yew Trees Home Manager, Susan Chadwick is convinced activities such as painting and drawing help improve the quality of life of someone with dementia. “We try to find activities that people enjoy, are fun and which help people feel better about themselves. People with dementia need activities that stimulate thought and maintain their interest in their surroundings, as well as helping them to express their feelings.” The painting has impressed professional healthcare staff and many of the relatives visiting Yew Trees. Yew Trees has an ongoing and imaginative activities programme for all its residents. Ends. Photograph shows: Yew Trees manager Susan Chadwick with painting.
